During the European elections, French voters of Muslim faith largely supported the list of La France insoumise (LFI), thus confirming a trend observed for several elections. According to an Ifop poll for La Croix, 62% of Muslim citizens who participated in the vote chose the head of the list Manon Aubry, affiliated with this left-wing party. This preference reflects a constant commitment of this community to the ideas defended by LFI, thus consolidating a lasting political relationship.
This massive support is not new: in the first round of the 2022 presidential election, 69% of Muslim voters had already expressed their preference for Jean-Luc Mélenchon , the emblematic leader of La France Insoumise. This loyalty is evident again in the European elections, despite a high abstention rate of 59% among Muslim voters, even exceeding that of all registered voters.
Several key factors explain this massive support. At the top, the issue of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict was cited by 83% of Muslim voters as a crucial issue, compared to only 25% for the entire population. The Palestinian cause was a central subject of the rebel campaign.
Apart from the conflict in the Middle East, other issues also caught the attention of Muslim voters. Notably, health is a subject of concern for 79% of them, slightly exceeding the national average of 66%. The fight against racism and discrimination is also considered decisive by 78% of this electorate, compared to 41% for all respondents, thus highlighting deep social and societal concerns within the Muslim community.
This continued support for La France insoumise also has repercussions on the French political landscape. The other parties failed to capture a significant share of this vote, with much lower scores for the other lists such as that of Raphaël Glucksmann (8%) or those of Renaissance and the National Rally (6% each).
In short, the vote of French Muslim voters for La France insoumise in the 2024 European elections illustrates political loyalty based on clear and strong positions, particularly on international and social issues.
