Disastrous ratings for Emmanuel Macron's interview on France 2

He was a guest of Caroline Roux on the program "L'Événement" on France 2 this Thursday, June 18th. Emmanuel Macron failed to attract viewers. Broadcast live from the Élysée Palace after the G7 summit in Évian and the signing of the peace agreement between the United States and Iran, The interview with the head of state attracted 2,18 million people between 20:23 p.m. and 21:06 p.m., representing 13,1% of the audience share.

This score places France 2 behind TF1, M6, and France 3 in this time slot. The public channel even saw its audience decline as the interview progressed: while Léa Salamé's 20 p.m. news program still attracted 3,16 million viewers, the presidential interview quickly fell below the two million mark, reaching 1,81 million at 20:54 p.m.

A growing disaffection that is being confirmed

This special program, scheduled in place of Envoyé spécial, constitutes the second lowest score recorded by Emmanuel Macron during a televised interview since his arrival at the Élysée in 2017. Only his intervention devoted to the environment, broadcast in June 2025 on France 2 opposite Léa Salamé and Hugo Clément, had done worse with 1,57 million viewers.

Among the key 25-49 age group, the results are even more worrying for the President of the Republic. The interview attracted only 6,7% of this demographic, placing France 2 fourth among national channels, behind TF1, M6, and Quotidien on TMC. This poor performance comes just days after another disappointing audience for his appearance on TF1's 13 p.m. news program.

Despite addressing major issues, from the Middle East to the Lyhanna affair, and including pensions and purchasing power, Emmanuel Macron seems to be struggling to capture the attention of the French. This is a worrying sign less than a year before the end of his second term.
