Visiting a primary school in Hauts-de-Seine this Friday, François Bayrou and Élisabeth Borne are expected to relaunch the teacher training reform, which has been announced and then abandoned several times. Faced with the recruitment crisis in the National Education system, the Prime Minister intends to enact the return of the competitive exam at the bachelor's level (bac+3), with two years of paid training at stake: €1 net for first-year master's students, €400 for second-year master's students, before becoming a permanent employee.
The reform, defended by Emmanuel Macron in April 2024 and then put on hold by the dissolution, will be accompanied by the creation of "professorial licenses" and will be inspired by the model of the former normal schools, which disappeared in 1991. While the ambition is welcomed, higher education unions are concerned about the lack of consultation and fear a rushed implementation, as in 2023.
Writing, another priority displayed
Another priority for François Bayrou: the reconquest of writing, which he considers essential in the face of the growing dominance of images. He hopes that writing will once again become a daily practice, in all disciplines. This measure is part of a series of announcements planned between now and April 15, as the government seeks to stem the decline in educational standards and restore the attractiveness of the teaching profession.
