Appearing on RTL radio this Thursday, June 18, Éric Dupond-Moretti reacted for the first time to the Lyhanna case, the 11-year-old schoolgirl found dead in the Gers region. The former Minister of Justice denounced what he considers a political exploitation of the tragedy by several opposition parties, whom he accuses of prioritizing grand pronouncements over concrete solutions.
He specifically targeted the National Rally, La France Insoumise, the Socialist Party, and The Republicans. Éric Dupond-Moretti deemed the proposal unrealistic. Marine Le Pen aiming to recruit 18,000 magistrates, he noted that it takes several years to train a judge. He also accused certain political figures of exploiting the public outcry surrounding the case to advance their own agendas.
A defense of justice in the face of criticism
The former Minister of Justice also warned against repeated attacks on the judicial system. According to him, systematically questioning judges risks fueling distrust in the justice system. He called for a more in-depth debate on the resources allocated to the courts and the functioning of the criminal justice system, moving beyond knee-jerk reactions.
Éric Dupond-Moretti has finally expressed reservations about certain proposals put forward in recent days, particularly those concerning mandatory chemical castration. He also defended Gérald Darmanin against calls for his resignation, arguing that the Minister of Justice cannot interfere in the individual handling of legal cases and cannot be held directly responsible for any local malfunctions.
