While the funeral of Brigitte Bardot As events unfold this Wednesday in Saint-Tropez, and the French icon is accused by some of racism, a completely forgotten video resurfaces. 2006BB had embarked on a legal case little known to the general public: attempting to prevent the execution of Farley C. Matchett, a Black American prisoner held on death row at TexasDetermined to intervene, she had financed a lawyer to ensure a new defense, and had written directly to the governor of texas as well as President of the United States to plead for the commutation of her sentence. Furthermore, Brigitte Bardot denounced the anti-Black racism prevalent in Texas, something her detractors are careful not to mention today…

A mobilization that unfortunately had no effect

Despite the scale of Brigitte Bardot's efforts and the support of several organizations and public figures, Farley Matchett had been executed in September 2006In his last words, the prisoner had insisted on thank Brigitte Bardot for her supporthighlighting the symbolic importance of his commitment in his final hours. As a reminder, Farley Matchett had spent more than 15 years on death rowbefore its execution.

A commitment beyond animals

This action is part of the humanitarian stances Brigitte Bardot, who, although best known for her fight for animal rights, has sometimes used her fame to defend individual causes on the international stage, particularly in controversial legal cases.
