During his appearance on the talk show The Viewbroadcast on the American channel SPCArnold Schwarzenegger was asked for his opinion regarding the operations of the federal agency. ICERather than directly condemning the officers, unlike other stars, the actor and former governor of California chose to emphasize the importance for immigrants to respect the law.

“You are a guest in America”

Schwarzenegger, himself an Austrian immigrant who became an American citizen in the 1980s, stated: “I am an immigrant, but you must do things legally. You are a guest in America. You must reciprocate.”

To illustrate his point, Schwarzenegger added: “When you are a guest in someone’s home, you must behave properly and not cause any problems. You must keep the place clean and act responsibly.”

The presenters of The View They emphasized that most immigrants try to abide by the law and that negative stereotypes do not reflect reality. Schwarzenegger acknowledged these nuances but maintained that strict adherence to immigration laws remains a priority to ensure order and social cohesion.

A Call for Reform

Beyond the issue of ICE operations, the former governor advocated for a comprehensive reform of the American immigration system, stating that current problems stem from a lack of coordination between federal and local agencies. He argued that lasting solutions must include efforts to facilitate immigrant integration and encourage them to contribute positively to American society.
