Vladimir Putin says he is ready for a call from Emmanuel Macron for a "serious" discussion, according to Sergey Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister stated on Thursday that Vladimir Putin is willing to receive a call fromEmmanuel Macron to engage in a "serious" discussion. This statement comes as Paris is discreetly trying to re-establish a channel of dialogue with Moscow, four years after the start of the war in Ukraine.

In this context, the Elysée Palace's diplomatic advisor, Emmanuel Bonne, recently traveled to Moscow to meet with his Russian counterpart, a move coordinated with Kyiv according to a source close to the matter. This trip marks a preparatory step towards a possible direct exchange between the two heads of state.

This opening comes as talks involving Russia, Ukraine, and the United States are taking place in Abu Dhabi, with a prisoner exchange already agreed upon. Moscow is thus suggesting that a diplomatic path remains possible, provided it takes the form of direct contact between the French and Russian presidents.
