Raphaël Schellenberger, a member of parliament for the Haut-Rhin region (Les Bâtisseurs party), submitted a report to the Prime Minister's office on Monday, July 20th, aimed at accelerating the electrification of French industry. The document contains 29 concrete proposals to encourage factories to gradually abandon gas in favor of electricity. The MP is advocating for the inclusion in the next budget of financial support measures for industrial sites committed to this energy transition.
Differentiated pricing depending on the sector
The report recommends differentiated electricity pricing based on business sectors. Data centers should pay a higher price than the manufacturing and processing industries to maintain the competitiveness of French factories. This distinction aims to guarantee preferential access to electricity for productive sectors, in the face of the growing consumption of data centers.
The MP's recommendations aim to empower manufacturers to make the leap to electrification. The energy transition of production sites represents a major challenge for the country's economic sovereignty.
