France is hosting an extraordinary G7 meeting on Monday, bringing together the Ministers of Economy, Energy, and Central Banks. This is the first such meeting since the group's creation, as announced by Economy Minister Roland Lescure, against a backdrop of significant economic and energy turmoil.
This meeting, planned via videoconference, aims to analyze a situation marked by the convergence of several crises: rising energy prices, inflationary pressures and economic uncertainties linked in particular to the conflict in the Middle East.
Coordination in the face of a multidimensional crisis
The goal is to better coordinate the responses of major powers to these simultaneous challenges. Central banks, usually absent from this expanded format, will participate in the discussions for the first time, a sign of the seriousness of the situation.
In early March, the G7 finance ministers had already said they were ready to take all necessary measures to contain the surge in energy prices, including mobilizing strategic oil reserves.
This initiative is part of the French presidency of the G7 in 2026, with a summit planned for June in Evian, while geopolitical tensions continue to weigh on the global economy.
