A preliminary investigation for "attempted corruption of minors" has been opened against a police officer in the Vosges region. He is accused of showing photographs of corpses from criminal investigations to four 15-year-old high school girls who were doing internships at the Épinal police station.
The man in question is reportedly the chief of staff of the national police in the department. Suspended as a precautionary measure for several weeks, he is now the subject of an investigation by the General Inspectorate of the National Police. His computer equipment has been seized to determine the nature and origin of the images presented.

Beyond the potentially traumatic nature of these images for minors, their dissemination raises questions about the confidentiality of the investigation. These photographs were allegedly taken from judicial files to which the police officer had access in the course of his duties, and were not intended for educational purposes for trainees.
The investigation will have to establish the precise circumstances of the dissemination and the officer's motives. The charge carries a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a fine of €75,000. The suspension remains a precautionary measure, and the police officer remains presumed innocent until a final judicial decision is reached.
