A 17-year-old girl is still fighting for her life after a brutal attack Friday night in Reims. Stabbed twelve times, the teenager was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Her prognosis remained uncertain on Saturday, according to information released by the prosecutor's office.
The incident occurred around 20:40 p.m. Alerted quickly, law enforcement arrested a 28-year-old man, identified as the victim's former partner. Taken into custody, he was still being questioned Saturday evening as part of the ongoing investigation.
The breakup is at the heart of the investigations.
The Reims public prosecutor's office has opened an investigation for attempted murder to determine precisely how the attack unfolded and the circumstances that led to it. Initial findings suggest a dispute stemming from the end of the relationship between the two individuals. According to prosecutor François Schneider, the motive for the attack appears to be directly linked to this separation.
The victim, a Congolese national, and the suspect, an Angolan national, knew each other before the incident. Investigators are continuing their interviews and analyzing various witness statements as well as physical evidence collected at the scene. The aim is to establish precise responsibility and determine whether the attack was premeditated, a finding that could support the prosecution's theory of attempted murder.
