A judge overseeing the enforcement of sentences has ordered the transfer of Rédoine Faïd from the Condé-sur-Sarthe prison in the Orne department to another facility. This decision, motivated by conditions of detention deemed inhumane, stipulated his departure before August 24th.
The Alençon public prosecutor's office has appealed this ruling. The transfer of the repeat armed robber is therefore now suspended pending the outcome of this appeal. His lawyer, Benoît David, believes the initial decision confirms the impossibility of improving his client's detention conditions in Condé-sur-Sarthe.
Already transferred in 2025
Redoine Faïd has been incarcerated in this establishment since 2025. He was previously held in Vendin-le-Vieil, in the Pas-de-Calais, where the justice system had already considered that the combination and duration of his detention conditions violated human dignity.
The inmate is nicknamed the "king of the escape" because of two spectacular breakouts. In 2013, he escaped using explosives, before repeating the feat in 2018 aboard a helicopter. His profile explains the particularly strict security measures implemented since his re-incarceration.
