A 16-year-old boy was seriously wounded by gunfire overnight Friday to Saturday in Villeurbanne, near Lyon. Shot in the abdomen and calf, the victim was transported to Édouard-Herriot Hospital in critical condition.
The shooting occurred around 1:00 a.m. in a public area in the Grandclément neighborhood. According to a source close to the investigation, two individuals riding a scooter opened fire with a rifle and a handgun before fleeing. Two spent cartridges, one 7,62 mm and the other 7,65 mm, were recovered at the scene.
Police reinforcements deployed over the weekend
An investigation has been opened into attempted murder by an organized group, the transport and possession of a firearm, and criminal conspiracy. The investigation has been entrusted to the Rhône's organized and specialized crime division. The precise circumstances of the attack and the victim's profile are still being determined.
The prefect of the Rhône department, Étienne Guyot, announced the deployment of riot police reinforcements throughout the weekend in the Grandclément, Buers, and Guillotière districts of Lyon. Another shooting, without injuries, occurred simultaneously in the latter area. Two suspects were apprehended as they attempted to flee.
