French authorities have arrested 178 users of the former Coco chat site following a large-scale operation against child pornography conducted between May and June 2026. The individuals involved, aged between 20 and 60, are suspected of having disseminated or shared child pornography or of having committed sexual offenses against minors.
Coordinated by the National Cyber Unit of the Gendarmerie, the operation is a continuation of the investigations that led to the closure of the platform in 2024. Investigators exploited a considerable volume of data, analyzing more than 185,000 photographs and nearly 24,000 videos in order to identify the main users involved in criminal activities.
Several detentions
In total, 172 people were taken into custody and six others were questioned under the voluntary interview procedure. The initial judicial decisions have already resulted in seven prison sentences, two suspended sentences, 19 pre-trial detentions, 19 judicial supervisions, and 22 summonses to appear in court.
The investigation continues after the platform reappeared under the name Cocoland a few months after its closure. Coco's founder, already under investigation in France, is being prosecuted for offenses related to the distribution of child pornography, the corruption of minors, and the administration of a platform that facilitated various criminal activities.
