The return of the Coco website is worrying authorities, who suspect it of facilitating serious crimes.

The reappearance of the Coco website, shut down in 2024 by the courts, has sparked serious concern among public authorities. Rebranded as "Cocoland" and accessible via a new address, the platform is once again under scrutiny for its alleged role in several criminal cases, including sexual violence and ambushes. The High Commissioner for Children, Sarah el Haïry, denounced it as a dangerous tool exploiting vulnerabilities on the internet to target victims, particularly minors.

The site had already been implicated in sensitive cases, including the Mazan rapes. According to authorities, it served as a conduit for criminal acts, ranging from sexual assault to drug trafficking. Its closure in June 2024 did not, therefore, put an end to its activity; the platform has reappeared in another form, reigniting concerns about its regulation.

Procedures initiated to obtain a new closure

Faced with this resurgence, legal proceedings have been initiated to try to shut down the site again. Authorities maintain they intend to identify and prosecute those responsible, despite the difficulties related to its foreign registration. The founder, indicted in 2025 for several serious offenses, denies the charges against him.

Public officials and child protection organizations are raising the alarm about the persistent risks associated with these types of platforms. They emphasize their ability to facilitate online criminal activity and call for strengthened control and regulation measures to prevent their re-emergence.
