An 18-year-old man died after taking ecstasy purchased from a fake social media profile. His alleged supplier, a 19-year-old man arrested on Monday, was charged on Wednesday with manslaughter as well as with supplying, transporting, and possessing narcotics, according to Toulouse prosecutor David Charmatz.
The victim, a 19-year-old student according to some sources, died on May 14th during a private party in the Côte Pavée neighborhood of Toulouse. Suffering convulsions in the early morning, he was transported to Rangueil University Hospital where he died a few hours later. Investigators determined that the suspected dealer was reselling pills, purchased for €2,50 each, for €10 apiece, using a fake social media profile.
A second person has been charged, but pre-trial detention has been refused.
The victim's 21-year-old best friend was also arrested; he allegedly shared the pills with the deceased that evening. The prosecution had requested pretrial detention for the suspected dealer, but the judge ultimately placed him under judicial supervision, citing his lack of a prior criminal record.
The autopsy and toxicological analyses are still underway to determine the exact composition of the ingested substances. The case illustrates a trend documented by specialists: the resurgence of ecstasy in party circles, now distributed through anonymous sales networks on digital platforms, making traceability virtually impossible for investigators.
