The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced director Christophe Ruggia to five years in prison, including two years suspended under electronic bracelet, for sexual assaults committed on actress Adèle Haenel when she was a minor.
The events date back to the period 2001-2004, when the actress, aged 12 to 14, regularly met with the filmmaker after the filming of the movie The Devilswhich marked his debut in cinema. The director, now 61 years old, was found guilty of these actions in the context of an abusive relationship.
A harsher sentence on appeal
The sentence is harsher than the one handed down in the first instance in February 2025, where Christophe Ruggia received a four-year prison sentence, two years of which were to be served under electronic monitoring. The appeals court has therefore increased the sentence, while maintaining the existing conditions of his release.
