Just hours before Brigitte Bardot's funeral, scheduled for this Wednesday in Saint-Tropez, her last husband, Bernard d'Ormale, shared on BFMTV a moving testimony about the last moments spent alongside the French cinema icon.
Bernard d'Ormale recounts being present when his wife breathed her last. He remembers her murmuring their usual affectionate expression, “pew pew”before passing away. According to him, in the moment that followed, a change occurred: the pain disappeared and a profound serenity settled in. He describes this moment as the most moving moment of his entire life with Brigitte Bardot, adding: "She didn't deserve to suffer."
Furthermore, Bernard d'Ormale stated that Brigitte Bardot was suffering from a cancer and was tired of fighting: "It slipped out two or three times in the last few months, during moments of physical suffering, she would tell me: 'I'm fed up, I want to leave…'"
A national tribute refused
While the idea of a national tribute had been raised, Bernard d'Ormale explained that the family had chosen not to pursue it. According to him, Brigitte Bardot was not attached to official ceremonies and had already received the Legion of Honour without ever seeking it herself. For the actress's husband, what matters is that the French remember her generosity, her character, and her commitment to animal welfare, rather than formal distinctions.
An intimate ceremony in Saint-Tropez
Brigitte Bardot's funeral The funeral will take place at the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, followed by burial at the Saint-Tropez marine cemetery.
