Accused of rape and removed from NRJ since November, Cauet and his production company, Be Aware, took NRJ to court in January in order to return to the air. The 52-year-old host, who presented the show C'Cauet since 2010, believed that although he was the target of accusations of rape and sexual assault, the presumption of innocence must be respected, his sidelining causing him and his society serious prejudice.
Seeing that the management of NRJ had no intention of putting him back on the air, Cauet changed strategy, ultimately asking not for a return to the microphone, but for compensation. The host demanded a little more than 4 million euros from the NRJ group.
This week, the court dismissed Sébastien Cauet and his companies' claims for compensation, and therefore ruled in favor of NRJ, which considers the contract with its flagship host to be void.
Following this court decision, Sébastien Cauet's lawyer declared “For us, it’s an obvious disappointment. The court says that a contract can be called into question simply because of a media storm"
For its part, the NRJ group welcomed this decision through a scathing press release, recalling that given the seriousness of the accusations against Cauet, the conditions for a return to the air were not met.
