At the world premiere of Toy Story 5, held on June 9 in Los Angeles, Taylor Swift made a surprise appearance and performed "I Knew It, I Knew You" live for the first time, the original song she composed specifically for the film's end credits. The 36-year-old superstar's contribution to the soundtrack of the fifth installment of the Pixar saga was announced in early June on Instagram. The singer wrote that she had "always dreamed of writing for these characters" since the age of five, adding that composing the song had given her "the feeling of going on a musical adventure while also reconnecting with her country roots." Toy Story 5 will be released in French theaters on June 17.
A complete secret: even the cast knew nothing until the very last moment.
Tom Hanks, who has voiced Woody since the first film in 1995, revealed at the premiere that Taylor Swift's involvement had been kept secret until the very last minute. "It was top secret. They gathered us in a soundproof room to tell us, 'Tonight at 21 p.m., the real end-credits song is going to be released, and it will be performed by Taylor Swift.' We had seen the film without the song; we had some silly thing in its place," he confided. For the 69-year-old actor, the news was a revelation: "It was like being told, 'Oh, by the way, we have Judy Garland singing Over the Rainbow at the beginning of the film.'" During the evening, Taylor Swift also performed a live rendition of "You've Got a Friend in Me," the franchise's iconic song, accompanied on piano by Randy Newman, its longtime composer. The singer, who was absent from the red carpet, declared from the stage that it was "a huge honor" to be part, "even modestly", of the world of these films.
