The Strokes release "Going Shopping" and announce their new album

After several days of teasing and mystery, The Strokes have officially announced their return with a new single, "Going Shopping," the first track from an album expected this summer. This highly anticipated release, six years after their previous project, marks a new chapter in the New York band's career.

A gradual return, somewhere between teasing and a surprise release

Even before its official release, the track was already circulating informally. The band had sent cassettes to some fans, leading to the spread of bootleg versions online. This unusual launch continued with a live performance in San Francisco, prior to the official release on streaming platforms.

"Going Shopping" remains true to the band's style, with its characteristic guitars and relaxed energy, while introducing more modern elements, particularly in the vocal processing. According to Radio France, the prominent use of autotune on Julian Casablancas' vocals surprised some listeners, with some seeing it as a bold evolution and others as a break with the band's original identity.

A new album and a tour are already in the works.

This single announces the release of Reality Awaits, scheduled for June 26, 2026. Recorded in Costa Rica with producer Rick Rubin, this seventh album is expected to contain nine tracks and mark an artistic turning point for the group.

This comeback comes as The Strokes prepare to return to major international stages, including a headlining performance at Coachella. Still in high demand despite their 25-year career, the musicians could soon announce new tour dates, extending this highly anticipated return.

After a period of uncertainty and doubts expressed by Julian Casablancas about the future of the group, this new project seems to confirm a desire for renewal, even if it means shaking things up.
