Iliass Mansouri, known by his stage name Dystinct, has just been inducted into the prestigious Guinness World Records. This international recognition rewards the remarkable performance of his songs on the Billboard Arabia charts. Born on September 9, 1998, in Mortsel, Belgium, to Moroccan parents from the Rif region, the 26-year-old artist has established himself as one of the most influential singers in the Maghreb and is among the most listened-to artists in the MENA region and Europe.
From Amsterdam to the Arab summits
Dystinct's journey truly began in 2019 when, at eighteen, he left Belgium for Amsterdam and signed with the label Avalon Music. His hit single "Ya La Laa" quickly surpassed 50 million views, marking his explosive entry onto the Dutch rap scene. After the release of his debut album, "Mon Voyage," in 2021, primarily in Dutch, the artist made a strategic shift by converting his music to Moroccan Arabic. This transition paid off with the success of "Ghazali" in 2022.
A musical family legacy
His second album, Layali, released in 2023, confirms this musical direction, allowing him to reach a much wider audience than his Flemish beginnings. The son of a singer, Iliass Mansouri abandoned his initial passion for football, which he played in Dageraadplaats near the Zurenborg district of Antwerp, to follow in his father's footsteps. This decision has proven fruitful, with worldwide recognition crowning a meteoric rise.
