Chappell Roan criticized by footballer Jorginho after an incident with his stepdaughter in Brazil

While in São Paulo for the Lollapalooza Brasil festival, American singer Chappell Roan found herself embroiled in an unexpected controversy involving footballer Jorginho and his family. The affair stemmed from an incident in a hotel, the details of which differ, and which quickly escalated into a media and political firestorm.

A disputed incident between Jorginho's family and the singer's entourage

According to an account Jorginho posted on Instagram, his wife Catherine Harding and their 11-year-old stepdaughter were having breakfast at the same hotel as the artist when the girl simply smiled at the singer. The player claims that a security guard then intervened aggressively, reprimanding the child for inappropriate behavior and leaving her in tears.

The singer responded the following day, also on Instagram, offering a different version of events. She maintains that she did not see the footballer's family and asserts that the agent in question was not part of his personal security detail. She did, however, apologize, stating that she was "sorry" if the situation had made the mother and child uncomfortable, while also deeming it "unfair" that ill intentions had been attributed to them.

A controversy that has spread to the political sphere

The affair took an unexpected turn when Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere reacted publicly, announcing that Chappell Roan would not be invited to perform in the "Todo Mundo no Rio" concert series during his term. In the same message, he offered Jorginho's stepdaughter the honor of being a guest of honor at an upcoming event.

For her part, Catherine Harding shared on social media a video of her daughter attending another concert at the festival, explaining that they had preferred not to go to the American singer's concert after the incident.
