Villeurbanne: Cédric Van Styvendael re-elected in an unprecedented five-year election

Incumbent mayor Cédric Van Styvendael (Socialist Party) was re-elected in Villeurbanne with 42,59% of the vote, following a second round marked by an unusual five-list contest. Supported by the entire traditional left, he confirmed his stronghold in the second largest city of the Lyon metropolitan area.

Behind him, the dispersion of votes played out in full: Jean-Paul Bret (various left) obtained 16,97%, Mathieu Garabedian (LFI) 16,79%, Sophie Cruz (various right) 15,01% and the RN Gérard Canon 8,64%.

A divided but dominant left

Despite the lack of unity among the various left-wing factions, Cédric Van Styvendael emerged victorious, benefiting from his status as incumbent and a solid electoral base. The divisions among his rivals, particularly on the left, were insufficient to challenge his dominant position.

This result confirms that Villeurbanne remains in the left-wing fold, in an election where no merger of lists came to reshuffle the cards between the two rounds.
