Paris: Lucie Castets wins the 12th arrondissement after a relaunched campaign

Lucie Castets was elected mayor of Paris's 12th arrondissement in the second round of municipal elections, confirming the left-leaning nature of this sector of the capital. She won with 41,85% of the vote, well ahead of Valérie Montandon, the candidate for the right-wing and center-right alliance (22,52%), and Clara Chassaniol, for Horizons/Renaissance (11,94%).

Arriving mid-campaign after the withdrawal of the outgoing Green mayor Emmanuelle Pierre-Marie, criticized for her management, the former left-wing candidate for Matignon was able to quickly rally her camp and capitalize on a favorable dynamic.

A victory amidst divisions in the center

The election was also marked by the lack of unity within the center-right camp, as the Horizons/Renaissance candidate refused any merger with other lists, contrary to the strategy adopted elsewhere in Paris. This fragmentation contributed to widening the gap in favor of the left-wing candidate.

With this success, Lucie Castets establishes herself as a new municipal figure in Paris, in a key district where political balances nevertheless remain dependent on alliances across the capital.
