The outgoing mayor François Grosdidier (various right-wing parties) was re-elected in Metz following the second round of the 2026 municipal elections, obtaining 50,56% of the votes and a large majority on the municipal council with 42 seats.
He clearly outpaced his competitors in a four-way race marked by a fragmentation of the vote. National Rally candidate Étienne Anstett came in second with 17,63%, followed by Charlotte Leduc, for the left-wing and green alliance (17,41%), and the socialist Bertrand Mertz (14,40%).
A victory made easier by the division within the opposition
With over 15,600 votes, François Grosdidier benefits from a favorable context linked to the lack of unity among the opposition forces, which are divided between the left, the National Rally, and the Socialist Party. This fragmentation allows him to surpass the 50% threshold in this second round and secure a comfortable majority to govern.
This result confirms the right-wing orientation of the city of Metz and offers the outgoing mayor a new mandate with a strengthened political base in the city council.
