Le président américain Donald Trump has conditioned any civilian nuclear agreement between Washington and Riyadh on Saudi Arabia's adherence to the Abraham Accords, which establish diplomatic relations with Israel.
Donald Trump stated it unequivocally: the proposed civilian nuclear agreement between the United States and Saudi Arabia is "totally contingent" on Saudi normalization of relations with Israel under the Abraham Accords. These accords, concluded during his first presidency, allowed several Arab countries to establish official diplomatic ties with the Jewish state.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt confirmed that negotiations are underway, without specifying their progress or the exact conditions being discussed between the two parties.
Riyadh has so far not joined these agreements, conditioning any normalization on concrete progress towards the creation of a Palestinian state. The war in Gaza further complicates the diplomatic equation, making a Saudi rapprochement with Israel politically delicate for the kingdom.
