Tehran sets six conditions for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz

Iran has made its demands to Washington to restore free passage through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most strategic sea lanes in the world.

Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, made public the conditions Tehran has set for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. In a statement broadcast on state television IRIB, he listed six demands addressed to the United States.

Iran is demanding, first and foremost, that Washington "correct its behavior" by ceasing all threats against Iran and its "sacred values." It is also demanding a complete halt to all US military action against Tehran and its regional allies, as well as the withdrawal of US naval and air forces involved in what it calls a blockade.

On the economic front, Tehran is demanding compensation for damages suffered during the recent conflict, the lifting of US sanctions, and the return of Iranian assets frozen abroad.

Zolghadr concluded his statement with an unambiguous warning: "The Supreme National Security Council will not back down from these demands, whether in times of war or during negotiations."
