Iran: Serbia and Sweden urge their citizens to leave the country

Serbia and Sweden on Saturday urged their citizens to leave Iran, citing a deteriorating security situation and the threat of potential US airstrikes. Belgrade advised its citizens in Iran to leave "as soon as possible," citing "rising tensions and the risk of a worsening security situation."

In Stockholm, the Swedish Foreign Minister issued a similar appeal, urging Swedes in Iran to leave the country and advising against all travel there. Serbia had already issued a comparable recommendation in mid-January.

American ultimatum and ongoing negotiations

This warning comes as relations between Washington and Tehran become strained once again. Iran indicated on Friday that it wanted to reach an agreement with the United States quickly, following the ultimatum issued by the American president. Donald Trumpwho mentioned a timeframe of "ten to fifteen days" to decide on a possible use of force.

Iran's nuclear program remains at the heart of disagreements between the two countries. The United States has strengthened its military presence in the region, in a context marked by recent talks and the repression of a protest movement in Iran earlier this year.
