Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky He argued that accelerating Ukraine's accession to the European Union would be the best way to guarantee the future and stability of the European continent. He reiterated this call at the summit of European leaders in Brussels, where the issue of EU enlargement was discussed.
According to the Ukrainian head of state, Ukraine's rapid integration into the Union would strengthen not only the country's security but also that of Europe as a whole. This position is part of Kyiv's ongoing efforts to achieve full EU membership, while the country remains engaged in a protracted conflict with Russia.
However, discussions among member states remain divided on the timetable for such accession. Hungary, in particular, succeeded in having a clause removed that aimed to accelerate Ukraine's integration process, illustrating the persistent disagreements within the Union on this sensitive issue.
Alongside the question of accession, Zelensky warned that Ukraine would need additional support to cope with the winter period if the war does not end soon. The Ukrainian president stressed the need to maintain and increase international aid in the coming months.
The Ukrainian leader also requested increased financial assistance to support his country's armed forces, as the conflict continues to put a heavy strain on Kyiv's budgetary and military resources.
This new appeal comes amid intense debates within the European Union on the future of support for Ukraine, both military and financial, as well as on the prospects for the country's long-term integration into the European bloc.
