Zelensky is in contact with London regarding sanctions against Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Wednesday that Ukraine had discussed with Britain the issue of sanctions against Russia, describing the subject as "sensitive" and hoping for more in-depth bilateral discussions in the coming days.

In his daily video address, Zelensky indicated that Kyiv had sent "signals" to London regarding Western sanctions against Moscow, without publicly specifying the measures involved.

“This is always a very sensitive issue… We have sent signals to London on this matter,” he said. “We hope that everything will be discussed bilaterally this week.”

The Ukrainian president did not directly address the British decision to continue allowing imports of diesel and kerosene refined from Russian crude oil processed in third countries. However, he insisted that the sanctions imposed by Western allies remained, in his view, the most effective way to exert pressure on Russia.

Later that day, Zelensky announced on the social network X that he had had a telephone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The Ukrainian leader thanked London for its military and diplomatic support, adding that the two countries were coordinating their positions in order to revive what he called "concrete diplomacy".

Starmer's office indicated that the Prime Minister had reaffirmed the UK's support for Ukraine. The two leaders also stressed the need to maintain pressure on Moscow and praised the strength of relations between London and Kyiv.
