Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky deemed it "absurd" that the global defense industry still cannot produce enough missile defense systems to meet the needs in the face of Russian attacks.
In his daily address, he stressed that Russian ballistic missile strikes against Ukrainian cities demonstrate the urgent need to increase production of interceptors and air defense systems.
Zelensky asserted that Ukraine possessed the necessary technical expertise to manufacture this type of weaponry. He argued that if the United States granted production licenses for Patriot systems, Ukraine could not only strengthen its own defense but also contribute to the security of its partners.
His statements come the day after a major Russian missile and drone attack on several regions of Ukraine, which highlighted Kyiv's difficulties in intercepting ballistic missiles due to a lack of available interceptors.
The Ukrainian president called on Western allies to accelerate the production and delivery of air defense systems, believing that a rapid strengthening of these capabilities would better protect civilian populations from bombing.
