Zelensky awaits new American proposals to revive peace negotiations

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Friday that diplomatic efforts to end the war with Russia needed to be revived and that he was awaiting new proposals from the United States regarding future formats for peace negotiations.

In his daily video address, Zelensky indicated that he was awaiting "a response from the United States regarding possible formats and the schedule of meetings."

The Ukrainian leader was speaking after a virtual meeting with the French president. Emmanuel MacronBritish Prime Minister Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.

"We must do everything to intensify diplomacy," Zelensky said, while also stating that the current military situation was favorable to Ukraine.

According to him, Ukrainian forces have regained control of 590 square kilometers of occupied territory since the beginning of the year. He also stated that the Ukrainian army was increasing the rate of losses inflicted on Russian forces, which, combined with Western sanctions, would push Moscow to prioritize the diplomatic route.

For its part, the British government indicated that Zelensky had informed his European allies of the "progress made by the Ukrainian army in recent weeks" in the face of the Russian offensives led by the president Vladimir Putin.
