Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned on Saturday that Russia was preparing an imminent massive attack against Ukraine. In a video address to the nation, he urged residents to be extra vigilant in light of air raid alerts in the coming hours.
"This evening and in the hours that follow, it is particularly important to pay close attention to air raid alerts," the Ukrainian president stated. According to him, Russian forces are preparing a large-scale offensive that could target several regions of the country.
This warning comes as new Russian airstrikes hit various areas of Ukraine on Saturday, killing at least six people. Among the victims was a woman killed in her car during an attack in Zaporizhzhia, in the southeast of the country.
For several weeks, Russia has intensified its bombing campaign against major Ukrainian cities. Kyiv, along with other urban centers, has been targeted by a series of large-scale attacks that have caused numerous casualties and significant material damage.
One of the most significant strikes occurred last Monday. According to Ukrainian authorities, ten people were killed across the country. The bombing also severely damaged the Pechersk Lavra monastery, a site over a thousand years old considered a major symbol of Ukraine's spiritual and cultural heritage.
Faced with this increased military pressure, Volodymyr Zelensky asserted that the Ukrainian army would continue its medium- and long-range airstrikes. These attacks are targeting, in particular, the Russian oil sector, which Kyiv considers a strategic asset supporting Moscow's war effort.
As the conflict enters a new phase of tensions, Ukrainian authorities now fear a new wave of large-scale attacks against the country's infrastructure and cities, while the population is urged to remain on high alert.
