Xi Jinping reaffirms his support for Russia despite China's opening up to other partners

The Chinese president Xi Jinping reaffirmed on Wednesday the strength of relations between China and Russia, calling for enhanced bilateral cooperation and mutual support in the face of international challenges.

During a meeting in Beijing with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Chinese leader stressed the importance of "stability" and "certainty" in relations between the two countries. He also asked his counterpart to convey his greetings to Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to Chinese state media.

Xi Jinping emphasized that Beijing and Moscow must continue to trust and support each other and defend their respective interests on the international stage. These statements are consistent with the ongoing strategic rapprochement between the two powers, which has strengthened in recent years.

This reaffirmation, however, comes at a time when China is also developing its relations with other countries and regional partners. Beijing seeks to diversify its alliances while strengthening its ties with Russia, in a constantly evolving geopolitical environment.

The Sino-Russian relationship is often presented as a counterweight to Western influence, particularly against the United States and its allies. The two countries cooperate closely in several areas, ranging from energy to security.

By highlighting the strength of this alliance, Xi Jinping sends a signal of strategic continuity, at a time when international balances remain marked by increasing tensions and major diplomatic realignments.
