Journalists' cameras captured images of King Charles III on Friday, during his first public appearance since leaving hospital, where he had been admitted following a health problem linked to the side effects of his cancer treatment.
British newspapers shared photos of the king smiling and waving to citizens from inside his car. He appeared to be in good health and was then expected to travel to his country residence, Highgrove, in Gloucestershire.
Meanwhile, Buckingham Palace revealed that the king visited the hospital on Thursday after suffering mild, temporary side effects from his treatment. He visited the London Clinic for follow-up and treatment, the same facility where he was treated for benign prostatic hyperplasia in January 2024.
The palace statement said the king has returned to his residence at Clarence House and has decided, as a precaution, to postpone his official engagements. He was due to receive the ambassadors of three countries on Friday and make four official visits to the city of Birmingham.
The palace spokesman commented:
« The King is deeply disappointed that he will not be able to attend these meetings and hopes to be able to reschedule them soon." He is well and continues his duties from his office. »
