A 27-year-old Palestinian man was killed on Saturday by an Israeli settler in the village of Masafer Yatta in the occupied West Bank, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. The incident occurred near the city of Hebron, in an area frequently marked by tensions between Israeli settlers and Palestinian residents.
According to Palestinian authorities and the official WAFA news agency, the man was killed during a clash involving settlers in the area. The Ministry of Health confirmed his death shortly afterward.
The Israeli army stated that the shooter was a reserve soldier who had gone to the scene after being informed of clashes between settlers and Palestinians. Israeli forces indicated that an investigation had been launched to clarify the circumstances of the shooting.
Masafer Yatta is one of the areas where tensions have escalated in recent years. According to the United Nations, settler violence in the West Bank has increased sharply over the past two years, contributing to the growing displacement of Palestinian families.
This incident comes just days after another deadly shooting in the northern West Bank. Two Palestinian brothers were killed on Monday near the city of Nablus, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The Israeli daily Haaretz reported that Israeli military police were also conducting an investigation into a reserve soldier involved in the previous shooting, as violence continues to fuel tensions in the occupied territories.
