The French army is once again in mourning. A 21-year-old soldier, deployed to Lebanon since June 1st as part of a cooperation mission with the Lebanese armed forces, died this Wednesday after being the victim of an accidental shooting during the preparation of an exercise, the Ministry of the Armed Forces announced.

Assigned to the Saliyeh operational military partnership detachment as an infantry combat instructor assistant, the young soldier was immediately attended to by on-site medical personnel. Despite the rapid response, he did not survive his injuries.

In a statement, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Fabien Mandon, paid tribute to the soldier "killed in action" and offered his condolences to his family, comrades, and loved ones. This death comes just weeks after the death of another French soldier wounded in Lebanon.
