Pakistani authorities have launched a major search operation at sea after a cargo plane disappeared off the coast of Karachi. Rescue teams are scouring the waters for the aircraft and its five crew members, authorities said Wednesday.
According to initial reports, the aircraft reported a problem with its navigation system before losing all contact with air traffic control while flying near Karachi. The exact circumstances of the disappearance remain unknown.
Flight tracking data shows that the aircraft experienced significant altitude variations in the minutes before a rapid descent to an area southwest of Karachi, fueling fears of a maritime accident.
K2 Airways stated that the five people on board consisted of two pilots, two engineers, and one support staff member. No survivors have been found so far.
Pakistani authorities are continuing their search to locate the wreckage of the aircraft and determine the cause of the incident. An investigation will be launched as soon as more information becomes available.
