Ukraine: Zelensky promises sanctions after the use of an arms depot in a residential area

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky It was announced on Saturday that those responsible for allowing the storage of weapons in a warehouse located in a residential area near Kyiv will be held accountable. This announcement comes after a Russian airstrike that caused deadly secondary explosions in the suburbs of the Ukrainian capital.

According to Volodymyr Zelensky, an investigation by the Ukrainian Security Service identified officials within the state-owned arms manufacturer Ukroboronprom who allegedly authorized the use of the facility located in Vyshneve, west of Kyiv.

The warehouse was hit this week during a Russian attack on the city, triggering a series of explosions after the initial impact. The Ukrainian president stated that ten people were killed in the events and that several hundred homes were damaged.

"This is a flagrant violation of the law and a decision by the General Staff of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces," Zelensky said. He added that those responsible had been identified and that the state demanded they be held accountable for their actions.

This incident comes as Ukraine faces regular Russian attacks targeting its infrastructure and military installations. Ukrainian authorities are also seeking to strengthen security protocols for the storage and handling of military equipment to prevent further civilian casualties.

Zelensky's decision to hold Ukrainian officials accountable underlines the authorities' willingness to show that internal errors in the management of military resources will not go unpunished, even in the context of the war the country is going through.
