Ukraine: Moscow denies any resumption of negotiations despite a visit by an envoy to the United States

The Kremlin has stated that the recent visit to the United States by Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in no way signifies a resumption of peace negotiations on Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that Kirill Dmitriev was not involved in political discussions related to the conflict, but was working solely on economic issues within the scope of his duties.

These statements come after reports of meetings between Dmitriev and members of the president's administration. Donald Trumpwhich had fueled speculation about a possible resumption of dialogue between Washington and Moscow.

"This is not a resumption of negotiations," insisted Dmitri Peskov, rejecting any interpretation to that effect.

This clarification comes in a sensitive diplomatic context, marked by the recent announcement of a temporary ceasefire decreed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the occasion of Orthodox Easter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated that Kyiv would respect this truce, opening a brief window of calm in a conflict that has dragged on for several years.

Despite these occasional gestures, the prospects for peace negotiations remain uncertain, with the positions of the two sides remaining deeply divergent.

In this context, Moscow seems to want to separate ongoing economic exchanges with the United States from political discussions on Ukraine, in order to avoid any confusion about the real state of negotiations.
