The Ukrainian army claims to have regained control of 480 square kilometers of territory on its southeastern and eastern fronts since the end of January, according to Chief of Staff Oleksandr Syrskyi. This advance comes as Russia continues its spring offensive operations.
Following a visit to the front line, the military official indicated that Ukrainian forces had recaptured eight localities in the Dnipropetrovsk region, in the east of the country, as well as four others in the Zaporizhzhia region, in the southeast.
Despite these advances, Oleksandr Syrskyi emphasized that Russian troops continued to mobilize significant resources. According to him, Moscow is not abandoning its military objectives and is currently reinforcing its personnel and equipment in preparation for new operations.
"Russian troops are not abandoning their plans for new offensives," he said, adding that despite significant losses, Russian forces are still seeking to conquer more Ukrainian territory.
The Chief of Staff also mentioned Russia's desire to establish a "buffer zone" in the Dnipropetrovsk region, which demonstrates the scale of Russian military ambitions in this phase of the conflict.
These developments illustrate the continuation of a war of attrition on several fronts, where territorial gains remain limited but strategically important, in a context of intense fighting and constant pressure from both sides.
