Ukraine: Russian airstrikes on several major cities leave at least 10 dead

At least ten people were killed and dozens more wounded Monday in a series of Russian attacks targeting several major Ukrainian cities, Ukrainian authorities announced. The strikes hit Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia, among other places, while rescue operations continued into the evening.

In Dnipro, in the southeast of the country, a missile attack killed at least six people and injured 29, according to regional governor Oleksandr Hanzha. The shelling damaged a shop, a school, homes, and several vehicles. Rescue teams were mobilized to assist the victims and search for possible survivors.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky He confirmed that the city had been struck by Russian missiles targeting infrastructure. He reiterated his call for European partners to accelerate the development of their missile defense capabilities to better protect the continent against this type of threat.

In his daily address, the head of state also promised a response to the Russian attacks. He asserted that Ukraine's actions were aimed at weakening the Russian state's capabilities and reducing its ability to continue the war.

In Zaporizhzhia, another city in southeastern Ukraine, a drone attack on a minibus killed three people, including two men and a woman. Eight others were injured, including a 7-year-old boy, according to regional authorities.

These new strikes illustrate the ongoing intensity of the conflict, as fighting and shelling continue to affect urban areas in Ukraine. The country's authorities are continuing to call for a strengthening of air defense systems to limit civilian casualties from Russian attacks.
