Trump threatens to impose 100% tariffs on countries that tax American tech giants

Le président américain Donald Trump Washington threatened on Friday to impose 100% tariffs on all goods imported from countries that apply a digital services tax targeting American companies. This announcement marks a further escalation in trade tensions between Washington and several partners, particularly in Europe.

In a message posted on social media, Donald Trump claimed that several European countries were considering implementing such a tax on American technology companies in the near future. He warned that any country adopting this measure would immediately be subject to a 100% tariff on all goods exported to the United States.

The US president also clarified that this measure would apply regardless of any trade agreements concluded with Washington. According to him, these new tariffs would supersede any existing or future agreement, whether already signed or simply under negotiation.

This threat comes just days after a renewed exchange of tensions with France. Before the G7 summit, Donald Trump warned that the United States could impose tariffs of 100% on French wines if Paris maintained its tax on digital services.

The French president Emmanuel Macron France responded that it would not yield to American pressure and would maintain the tax. Implemented in 2019, the tax levies 3% on revenue from digital services for companies with a turnover exceeding €25 million in France and €750 million globally.

Donald Trump's statements suggest a new phase of trade tensions between the United States and several European countries, as the taxation of large technology companies remains a major point of contention on the international stage.
