Le président américain Donald Trump should address several major issues at the G7 summit scheduled for next week in Évian-les-Bains, France, including the security of the Strait of Hormuz, global economic growth, artificial intelligence and migration issues.
According to US administration officials, Trump's trip will begin on June 15 in Washington, with a busy diplomatic schedule including bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit. Discussions are planned with the leaders of Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, focusing on developments in the Middle East.
Among the most sensitive issues is the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway for global oil transport. US officials indicate that the question of its "demining" will be discussed with G7 allies, against a backdrop of persistent tensions in the region. Washington maintains that reopening and securing the strait would be among the next steps in a potential broader agreement with Iran.
Summit discussions are also expected to focus on the resilience of global supply chains, the modernization of defense policies and new rules governing the development of artificial intelligence, a theme that has become central in relations between great powers.
In parallel, the summit is also expected to address ongoing diplomatic efforts in the Middle East. US officials have mentioned "significant" progress in discussions with Iran, without, however, confirming a specific timeline for a possible agreement.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky must also participate in several sessions dedicated to international support for Ukraine.
Finally, according to press reports, an official reception could be organized at the Palace of Versailles in honor of the American delegation, as part of the celebrations related to Franco-American friendship.
