Le président américain Donald Trump assured on Monday that discussions between Washington and Tehran were continuing "at a rapid pace", contradicting reports that Iran had suspended indirect talks aimed at ending the ongoing hostilities.
In a post on his Truth Social network, Donald Trump asserted that exchanges with the Islamic Republic of Iran remained active. This statement comes amid heightened regional tensions and uncertainty surrounding the true state of diplomatic channels between the two countries.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian news agency Tasnim reported that Tehran had decided to suspend indirect negotiations with the United States. This decision reportedly came after military developments related to the conflict involving Israel and operations in Lebanon, according to the report.
When questioned by American media, Donald Trump stated that he had not been informed by Iranian authorities of any suspension of talks. He insisted that, from the American perspective, diplomatic contacts had not been interrupted.
The American president also downplayed the significance of a potential diplomatic silence between the two sides. According to him, a pause in exchanges would not be problematic and could even prove beneficial in the current context.
"I think we've talked too much," he said in an interview with NBC News, adding that a temporary halt to communications could last "a long time" without harming ongoing efforts.
These statements illustrate the volatility of relations between Washington and Tehran, while conflicting reports on the state of negotiations fuel diplomatic uncertainties in the Middle East.
