TikTok is preparing a gigantic data center in Brazil with a $2 billion energy deal

Data center platform Omnia, owned by Patria Investments, has entered into a $2 billion energy deal with Brazilian renewable energy producer Casa dos Ventos to power a future data center for TikTok, the companies told Reuters.

The contract, signed for a period of twenty years, aims to supply the electricity needed for a massive digital infrastructure currently under construction in the port complex of Pecém, in the state of Ceará, in northeastern Brazil. The project is intended for ByteDance, owner of the social network TikTok.

According to the companies involved, this is the largest data center currently under development in Brazil. The total investment for the project is estimated at approximately 200 billion reais, or nearly 40 billion dollars, illustrating the country's growing importance in the global digital infrastructure sector.

The electricity that will power the site will come from the Ibiapaba wind farm, operated by Casa dos Ventos. The partnership is part of a strategy to massively utilize renewable energy to meet the growing energy needs of data centers, which are particularly energy-intensive.

Brazil is attracting increasing investment in technology thanks to its energy potential and abundance of renewable resources, particularly wind and hydroelectric power. Global technology companies are seeking to secure stable, decarbonized energy supplies to support the rapid expansion of digital services and artificial intelligence.

This project also illustrates the acceleration of investments by major foreign technology companies in Latin America. With this giant data center, TikTok and its parent company ByteDance are strengthening their presence in the region while investing in long-term energy infrastructure to support their global operations.
