A Thai family is in mourning after the body of a 17-year-old girl was found in an abandoned suitcase near a railway line in Pattaya. Authorities have arrested an Australian national in his forties, identified as Simon Peter Carman, who has been charged with murder as well as several other offenses related to the case.
According to Thai police, the suspect was arrested at Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport as he was about to board a flight to Australia. He is being prosecuted for murder, concealing a corpse, moving or destroying a body, and kidnapping a minor for sexual purposes.
Investigators say CCTV footage shows Simon Peter Carman entering an apartment with the young woman before leaving alone a few hours later, carrying a suitcase. Authorities believe he then loaded the suitcase onto a motorcycle before abandoning it in a grassy area near a railway line, where the victim's body was eventually found.
Before being transferred to the Pattaya Provincial Court, the suspect addressed a brief message to the victim's family from the police station. "I am sorry for what happened to your daughter. It was beyond my control," he said, without providing any further explanation about the circumstances.
The girl's father, 46-year-old Thongchai Donhomla, said he was devastated by the loss of his daughter, explaining that she had grown up without her mother and that she always did her best to help him despite the difficulties. Her stepmother, Oradee Bussarakum, demanded the harshest possible punishment for the suspect, believing he must be held fully accountable for his actions.
Police have not specified when Simon Peter Carman will make his first court appearance. The investigation is ongoing to establish the precise sequence of events leading to the teenager's death.
