Tanzania: Investigation launched after the death of an American influencer in Zanzibar

Tanzanian authorities have launched an investigation following the death of an American social media influencer during a tourist trip to Zanzibar.

The victim, 31-year-old Ashly Robinson, died after a suspected suicide attempt while on holiday with her fiancé in the popular tourist archipelago.

Tanzanian police have stated that they have placed her companion, Joseph Isaac McCann, under questioning as part of the investigation. His passport has been confiscated to prevent him from leaving the country during the investigation.

The exact circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear, as authorities seek to determine the events that led to the influencer's death.

Zanzibar, a major tourist destination off the coast of East Africa, attracts many foreign visitors each year, which gives this case particular significance.
