The death toll from the two powerful earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 continues to rise. Authorities announced on Saturday that 4,333 people had lost their lives, while 16,740 others were injured. According to the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, 315 victims have still not been identified.

Rescue operations have saved 6,462 people since the disaster, but nearly 17,000 residents are still homeless. The two earthquakes caused significant material damage, affecting 856 buildings, 190 of which collapsed completely or suffered major structural damage.

Given the scale of the destruction, authorities estimate that the country will need approximately 25,000 new homes to rehouse those affected. The government has already reserved nearly 584,000 square meters of land for reconstruction, particularly in the towns of Osma and Chuspa. The first 200 homes are expected to be allocated to affected families as early as next week, under the supervision of interim president Delcy Rodríguez.

The search continues in the hardest-hit areas, where authorities remain hopeful of finding possible survivors at one or two sites considered particularly sensitive. More than two weeks after the disaster, Venezuela continues to face a major humanitarian crisis, as rescue, victim identification, and reconstruction operations continue.
